NICE Technology Appraisals

Executive Summary

Technology appraisals are recommendations on the use of new and existing medicines and treatments within the NHS, based on the clinical and economic evidence submitted. The assessment involves a range of commentators and consultees, with clinical and patient representatives as well public consultation opportunities. NICE’s recommendations are prepared by an independent advisory committee called the Technology Appraisal Committee (TAC).

This section details NICE’s process and methodology for appraising technologies, analysing the five outcomes possible (recommended, restricted/optimised, cancer drugs fund, only in research, or not recommended) and what options are available to companies following each outcome.
