France began its flu vaccination campaign on 13 October, which will run until 31 January 2021.
Due to the current health crisis, even more priority for will be given to those at risk than in previous years. Those at risk include: people aged 65 and over, adults with chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma, obese people, and pregnant women.
Health professionals who are in contact with those at risk are also being invited to get a vaccine, in order to ensure that they can continue to do their jobs and to protect their patients. Those who are not considered at risk are asked to wait until the beginning of December if they wish to be vaccinated.
This year’s anti-flu vaccination campaign will be supported by communications targeting those at risk. The aim is to cover 75% of the at-risk population, as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Last year, only 47.8% of this group were vaccinated against.
