European Parliament votes to adopt draft regulation on HTA co-operation

The European Parliament has voted to adopt the Commission Proposal for Regulation on Health Technology Assessments. The new law lays out the procedure for member states to carry out voluntary joint assessments, covering aspects such as rules for sharing data, co-ordination groups, conflicts of interest and publishing.

The proposal will now discussed by the Council of Ministers. Certain member states have expressed strong opposition to the current draft, and so the legislation will likely face substantial revisions if it is to be eventually implemented.
