Consultation open on GP contract reforms

NHS England have launched a consultation on what could be the biggest changes to GP contracts in years. According to the consultation announcement, areas for potential change include:

  • “The rurality index payment;
  • The London adjustment; and
  • A reduction in the payment to practices for patients who live outside of the practice catchment area.”

The consultation, and eventual contract changes, will revolve around greater use of digital systems in the NHS. It is also likely that eventual changes will affect the Quality and Outcome Framework (QOF), with some indicators likely to be removed.

GPs are invited to take part in the consultation until the end of August here.
