Accountable Care Systems (ACSs) to be renamed to Integrated Care Systems (ICSs)

NHS England has announced that accountable care systems (ACSs) are to be renamed integrated care systems (ICSs) and that new rules and criteria will apply for sustainability and transformation partnerships (STPs) to gain ICS status.

‘Integrated Care System’ is being used as a collective term for both devolved health and care systems and for those areas previously designated as ‘shadow accountable care systems’ and will be supported by new financial arrangements. The move from STPs towards ICSs is voluntary however it is expected that in time ICSs will replace STPs.
