The HSJ has reported that the Department of Health (DH) published its annual mandate to NHS England more than three months later than anticipated.
It is reported that there was considerable debate between the government and NHS England over delivery and accountability of the Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) and that parts of government have been disappointed that many STPs didn’t produce robust cost-saving actions in their first year.
The Government has now stated that the NHS must deliver “the productivity and efficiency gains necessary to maintain financial balance”.
