NICE to Charge Manufacturers for Appraisals from 2017

In 2015, the report of the triennial review of NICE was conducted which recommended that “The Accelerated Access Review should consider the advantages and disadvantages arising from charging industry for health technology appraisals and medical devices and diagnostics evaluations”.

Following a meeting between EMIG and Sir Andrew Dillon, CEO of NICE, EMIG can confirm that it is the intention of NICE, subject to Departmental approvals, to introduce a charge to companies for assessments.

Details of the level of charge will be announced in the Autumn, but it is expected that there will be a different charge for:

  • STA
  • MTA
  • The proposed Abbreviated Assessment

It is intended that the charges will be introduced from April 2017.
