MPs tell Government to Stop using ‘Incorrect’ £10bn NHS Funding Increase Figure

Ahead of the Autumn Statement, Dr Sarah Wollaston, chair of the health select committee, along with several other committee members, have written to the chancellor calling on the Government to stop giving “false impression the NHS is awash with cash” by claiming that the health service is set to receive an extra £10bn a year.

Members of the committee point to the fact the £10bn figure can only be reached by adding a year to the spending review period as well as by changing the date from which the increase is calculated.

The cross-party group – led by Tory MP Sarah Wollaston – said, taking in to account inflation, the true increase between 2015-16 and 2020-2021 is £4.5bn.
