Calls on the Government to drop proposed merge of Innovate UK with UK Research and Innovation

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee has written to the Minister of State for Universities and Science calling on the Government to drop its proposals to incorporate Innovate UK into UK Research and Innovation.

The chair of the committee, Earl of Selborne, says the Committee believes that plans to incorporate Innovate UK into UKRI are wrong. He says the committee believe:

  • The Government has not consulted effectively with stakeholders
  • The case for integration appears to be based on a flawed linear model of innovation where Innovate UK functions as the commercialisation arm of the Research Councils
