Spanish Socialist Party Calls for Better Uptake of Orphan Products

The Socialist Party has called for the Government to include orphan drugs in the 2017 budget.

The Senator Granada explained that orphan drugs are drugs designed to prevent or treat rare diseases and have not been developed or marketed in the usual manner by the pharmaceutical industry to be targeted at a small number of patients.

PSOE spokesman in Health, José Martínez Olmos, ask specifically to be incorporated in the budget of the Ministry of Health and from 2017 a starting economic specific for the provision of orphan drugs, which would ensure the Autonomous Communities funding of those orphan drugs to be incorporated into the pharmaceutical provision of the national health system.
