Companies with Class C prescription medicines can apply to the AIFA for a price increase in January 2019

MAP’s partner in Italy, Regulatory Pharma Net, has communicated that companies can apply to the AIFA to increase the prices of Class C, prescription only, medicinal products. Prices of Class C medicinal products which require a prescription can only be increased in January of every odd year in accordance with Article 1, paragraph 3 of the Law Decree n. 87 dated May 27th 2005, with reference to art. 8, par. 10, letter c, of the Law December 24th 1993 n. 537.

Companies that wish to apply for a price increase must communicate the price change by 31 January 2019 at the latest and at least 15 days before the effective date of the new price.

Companies must provide the following information:

  • the effective date of the new price (not prior to January 1st, 2019),
  • the MA number,
  • the medicinal product description and its presentations,
  • the current price,
  • the new price including the variation and indication of the percentage change
  • any other possible annotation
