EU’s chief Brexit negotiator for Europe hints at offering UK a deal

During a Berlin conference held yesterday, Michel Barnier said that the EU “was prepared to offer Britain a partnership such as there never has been with any other third country”. He also warned that the UK could not opt for a “single market a la carte”, but the position now seems to have softened from making the UK choose between Norway and Canada collaboration models.

Following this breakthrough statement, French President Emmanuel Macron has also expressed his support for ensuring that the UK and EU reach a deal on the Brexit terms, saying that no-deal scenario would “break links and poison relations” between EU countries.
