Lack of Equity and Access are the Main Barriers for Oncologists

Improve access to therapeutic innovations in the field of oncology and end the lack of equity in the autonomous communities are the main challenges of the National Health System (NHS) . This was demonstrated at the Fifth Forum Eco, to analyse the present and future of cancer in Spain. In this sense, the head of the Medical Oncology Department of the Jimenez Diaz Foundation University Hospital, Jesús García-Foncillas, stressed that access to innovation and sustainability are two issues that go hand in hand, but do not lose sight of the patient.

And the advances in this field, with more precise and personalised medicines, present new challenges for the sector. This was highlighted by Ignacio Gil Bazo, head of the Oncology Department of the University of Navarra Clinic, who highlighted the difficulties in access to new diagnostic technologies, the variability in techniques used, the increase in pharmaceutical costs and the lack of Equity and access to these drugs, as the main challenges to be addressed.
