Japan Medical Data Infrastructure Act comes into force

Japan’s Next Generation Medical Infrastructure Act, passed last year, has entered force. The act has created a nationwide system of anonymised patient treatment and outcome records which can be used for medical R&D and healthcare improvement.

The voluntary scheme sees participating medical centres passing all medical information to certified private companies who will anonymise, collate, and provide it to public and private researchers. All patients have option to opt out of their information being included.
