Changes to AIFA expenditure monitoring system

The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has announced some administrative changes to its tracking register in order to improve the quality of its data.

The previous system records drug prices at the level of national-level approval, however these figures are often used to track expenditure, which will be based on actual prices paid in regional level tenders, which can vary between region.

In order to improve the register’s usefulness, the new system will collect the price actually paid at the regional level, in order to better reflect actual regional health spending.
