EUCOPE has been accepted as a member of the European Commission’s HTA Network Stakeholder Pool. As you may know, the HTA Network provides political and strategic guidance to the EU level cooperation on HTA while EUnetHTA Joint Action 3 is aimed at scientific and technical cooperation. The next meeting of the HTA network will take place on 29 March (to read the agenda for this meeting, please click here). Next to other stakeholders (patients/consumers, healthcare providers, payers) industry is invited as an observer to this meeting. Since only two representatives per stakeholder category are admitted, and the Commission made clear that they are expecting one representative from the pharmaceutical industry and one from the medical devices industry, EUCOPE has agreed together with AESGP, EFPIA, EuropaBio, Medicines for Europe and PPTA that EFPIA will represent the pharmaceutical industry at the Network’s meetings as well as taking the role of the co-ordinator of the pharmaceutical industry group.
Where possible, EUCOPE will ensure alignment within the industry group before and after HTA Network meetings (pre-calls, alignment on talking points, follow-up calls) and will report back on a regular basis. Altogether, the industry groups are aiming at the development of a consistent pharmaceutical industry position based on the various associations’ positions in order to have a strong impact on discussions of the HTA Network, whilst recognising any specificities that our associations may wish to underline (e.g. OMPs).
