In order that the 2014 Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS) continues to deliver its agreed objectives of predictability and stability to Government and industry and ensuring that the cost of branded medicines to the NHS stays within affordable limits, in accordance with paragraph 3.4 of the scheme, the Department has published an amendment to Chapter 6 and Annex 7 of the 2014 PPRS. The amendment has been agreed with the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) and is effective from 1 January 2017. It formalises the agreement reached in principle between the Department and the ABPI ahead of the publication of the PPRS payment percentage for 2017.
Details of the agreement can be found on the Government website.
The amended 2014 PPRS can be accessed at the PPRS Information Site and can be accessed by following this link: Amended 2014 PPRS.
The Government recognises the additional contribution being made by the pharmaceutical industry in acknowledgement of the financial challenges facing the NHS.
If your company does not wish to accept this amendment, paragraph 3.12 of the 2014 PPRS provides that the option of leaving the Scheme is available to Scheme Members, at any time, subject to a three month notice period.
Please contact David Watson at the ABPI or your Department of Health PPRS contact if you have any questions about this amendment.
