Global Prescription Drug Spend to Reach $1.5 Trillion by 2021

A report by QuintilesIMS has found that despite a decline in spending growth, the global medicines spending will nearly reach $1.5 trillion by 2021.


The report also shares a few more key findings:

  • speciality medicines will continue to rise
  • increasing numbers of new medicines reaching patients (an average of 45 new active substances to be launched each year)
  • biologic and biosimilar medicines will contribute to substantial savings
